The two maps compare the original layout of the Riverside Park in 2010 and the current look of the park.

In 2010, the overall appearance of the park was simple. In the eastern area of the park, the Heritage Railway was noticeably the major tourist attraction, with three railway lines specifically going from north to south, from east to west and from northeast to southwest. The southwestern part of the park was covered by a forest, providing visitors with an opportunity to feel the nature.

After nearly one-decade development, the park now not only keeps its function in offering visitors a place to get close to nature, but is more visitor-friendly. A parking area is now available for those driving to the park, which is situated on the western side of the north-south railway. During their visit, visitors can either settle down in the hotel lying to the southwest of the parking lot, or have food in the café facing the parking on the southeast. Besides, leisure activities in the park are more diversified. First, there is a newly built station where visitors are allowed to take the railway to experience the history. Second, a cycle path is constructed nearby the river so that tourists can go cycling and enjoy their time.

Overall, with more facilities constructed and opened to the public, the Riverside Park now is ready to attract more visitors.

Task 2 考题题库

1)双边讨论类:

Some people think that modern games can help children to develop a wide range of skills but others argue that traditional games can be much better for developing such skills.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

参考范文(作者:孙磊)

Unlike when I was young, children nowadays have more games to play, including traditional and modern ones. Which one is better arouses a heated discussion among people. Some insist that modern games can be helpful to develop a wide range of skills for kids, while others hold a different opinion. In my opinion, modern games bring more benefits to children.

Of course, there are some points that can maintain my opinion. It is widely acknowledged that games can stimulate the children’s intelligence, widen their horizons and benefit their inquisitiveness. For example, playing computer games is normally believed as the first step for children to get in touch with computer device and then children begin to acquire relevant knowledge about computer science. From my own schooling experience, it is true. I used computer to play simple poker game, when I was in primary school and then I have learned how to type and handle official business, which benefits me greatly in later studies and work. Another vivid example is that modern games are more suitable to our children’s appetizer. Times elapses, so does our interests. Not only the games’ contents are upgrading from generation to generation, but also the game technology and scientific level are evolving so quickly. Taking League of legends as an example, players have to team up, communicate with members, compete with rivals and make a strategy. It would be hardly possible for traditional games to develop so many skills at the same time.

On the other hand, there are two sides to every story. Those who believe that traditional games can be much better for developing skills may have their reasons. Traditional games refer to physical activities, such as flying a kite, hide-and-seek, running and jumping. They can be helpful to keep physical health for kids. Yet I think this is precisely because the technology was lagging behind in the past, and kids did not have many choices.

To sum up, modern games have tremendous merits in comparison with the traditional games. However, in the hoping to eliminate the disadvantages in modern games, the suggestion that parents, schools and games companies should avoid the kids’ games addiction and make a correct direction will definitely good to our children and society.

2)报告类:

Some figure show that some countries have an ever-increasing proportion of the population who are aged 15 or younger.

What do you think are the current and future effects of this trend on those countries?

参考范文(作者:陈晓露)

In this day and age, a larger percentage in the demographic age has been taken by the youth generation. Some people believe that the increasing number of youngsters will exert significant influences on the society. This essay mainly probes into several possible effects young people will bring to their countries.

The very first influence of the boom in the younger population is that the unemployment rate of young people will strike in those countries. The current job market is less likely to offer the growing job opportunities because the amount of vacancy can hardly increase within short period of time. This disparity will be even fiercer on certain decent jobs that require technical skills and professional knowledge. Therefore, numerous young workers would only have temporary jobs or even get unemployed, which may intensify the social contradictions.

On the other hand, the distinct advantage of population with the majority of teenagers is that the burdens on healthcare, social benefits programs and pension from those governments will be relieved because working population usually requires less of them. Furthermore, a great deal of youthful generation means potential workforce and productivity, which will contribute a large tax base to those countries. In that case, more infrastructure and social services will be able to invest with the economic growth of those countries. Therefore, the overall quality of life and well-being of citizens of all ages will be enhanced.

Obviously, we can draw the conclusion that mounting youthful population is a double edged swore, which will cause society unrest with the soaring youth unemployment, and boost up the economy developments because of the high percentage of productive workforce.

3)双边讨论类:

Some people say that children should go to school as early as possible, while others believe that children should go to school when they are at least 7 years old.

Discuss both views and give your opinion.

参考范文(作者:蒲玲玉)

Regarding the question whether children should go to school as early as possible, people have differing opinions. To my understanding, children should be at least 7 years old when they enroll in school.

It could be argued that children should enter school as early as possible. To begin with, this conduct can be seen as a burden-relieve for parents, since to be honest many parents have to work to raise their family and they usually do not have much time to company their children. If their children are in school, they do not have worry about whether their children are in good hands. Schools can be considered as a proper place for children to stay. Moreover, it is reported that a child can reach his or her potential if he or she attends school early. No one is more professional than teachers who are authorized educators and there is no denying that they know what is the best in educating children.

However, I still support the view that children should not enter school until they are at least 7 years old. Firstly, children under 7 are mentally and intellectually immature and it is not appropriate for them to mingle with other children. They can be easily influenced by other children and even teachers, and there is no guarantee that all of them are role models in schools. Secondly, children cannot enjoy more quality time with their parents if they go to school too early. As a matter of fact, the first 7-year period in life is the time when young children need constant care and love from their parents. On condition that they were in school too early, they would have trouble in forming a psychologically and physically healthy personality owing to the fact that they did not have too much time spending with their families.

Although going to school as early as possible can be reasonable to some extent, I am convinced that children who are under 7-year-old should not go to school.
